Republic, Missouri was settled in 1872 centered on the community of Little York. When the Frisco Railroad was laid, little York was not on the route. At the time the settlement of Little York was near today what is known as Brookline.
The first actual plat of the city of Republic was filed on January 8th 1879, and shortly after that a depot was planned for this emerging city. This depot would give citizens closer access to the benefits the Rail Road provided. Through a public subscription a $1000 grant was secured to build a depot in the city, bringing this town into the 20th century.
As of 2015, the city population of Republic is 16,005. This previous village has exploded with growth. The town now has 11 public schools all a part of the Republic School District. Many new housing developments have started and the city is adding new businesses daily. As the Springfield population is exploding, people are wanting to move to smaller cities like Republic, Nixa, Ozark, Willard and Clever. Living in Republic gives residents the big city experience while still living in a small town.
